In a discussion about this WoTLK Classic Gold male Blood Elf design, senior artist Joe Keller said that while the model "already has a lot of personality" due to his "easily recognizable pose and elegant hair," the upgrade provided an opportunity to establish these traits, "while still maintaining his iconic look, and bringing his style to that of the other new character models."

Although Blizzard hasn't given a specific timeframe for when these models will go live however, the company has said that it's "focusing on texture and model variations, along with animating and rigging" and expects to release the new visual style soon.

The majority of races from World of Warcraft received a visual upgrade in the lead-up to the release of Warlords of Draenor expansion. Following The Blood Elves, the Goblin and Worgen races remain due to see a visual overhaul.
