A robot vacuum is a great device to keep the cleanliness of your home. It can pick up dust, pet hair, and other surface debris.
Some robots can sync with smart assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant to provide a hands-free experience. Look for models that are rechargeable and continue cleaning where they left off.
1. iRobot S8
This smart robot mop and vacuum combo is an excellent choice for many households. It features a superb navigation system with GPS and laser sensors. It also comes with many features and controls that are accessible through the app. It also has a handy feature that lets you create Cleaning zones in areas that require additional attention, as well as Keep Out zones in areas where you don't want it to be. As with all Roomba devices, it gets new software updates that make it even better over time.
It's costly however, it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has evaluated. It's equipped with a powerful battery that can clean a large area in less than two hours. Additionally, it can switch between vacuuming and mopping at the touch of a button. floor vacuum robot emptys the trash bin that is above its charging station, unlike other self emptying robots which require you to empty it after each run.
It comes with a variety of other features that make it a good choice for homes of all sizes, including intelligent obstacle avoidance, which uses the camera as well as processor-powered intelligents to identify obstacles. It is rarely derailed or stuck during a cleaning cycle. In my tests, it was the best at avoiding objects such as power cables. It's not as precise at detecting pet waste or other hazards.
2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid
While the Anker-owned Eufy has earned a name for itself in low-cost robot vacuums it's not yet an all-in-one model that could also mop. That changes with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive set of modern features that can compete against much more expensive models.
The most significant selling point for Eufy with the X8 is its laser navigation. Previous Eufy devices have created an approximate map of your home by using infrared sensors and bumping into objects however the X8's laser mapping technology is much more accurate. It takes less time to build a comprehensive map of your home. It also has the ability to store multiple maps. This is great for homes with multiple floors.
The X8 is still a good vacuum on bare floors that can carry debris under its side brushes and into the 400ml dust bin with ease. The X8's tyres, despite having a circular shape, are adept at grabbing edges and corners. Our tests revealed that it could only remove 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.
There's a basic mopping mode that utilizes the same water tank as the vacuuming one. While this is a good option for loose spills but you cannot limit the amount of water it uses, which will limit its effectiveness on more severe staining. However, it does an admirable job of picking up pet hair, with a better percentage of hair removal than the Roborock S7.
3. Miele RX2
Known for quietly effective home appliances, Miele's RX2 robot vacuum has excellent cleaning power, beautiful design and great navigation. It has a few oddities in its operation that prevent it from being considered the best smart robot vacuum.
The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping system that makes use of LIDAR to map a room, and a pair 3D scanning cameras for detecting and avoiding obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once mapped, the app lets you create virtual no-go zones as well as areas that you want to clean. will clean automatically. You can also initiate a manual clean or manually change the cleaning mode, see live feeds from the cameras onboard and more from the main screen.
The RX2 has superior sensors that can detect furniture and other obstructions in a flash. The suction and sweeping capabilities are excellent, removing surface litter from carpets with medium pile and also removing embedded dust on floors. But it's not the most flexible robot available. It's not the best climber and has issues with metal threshold transition strips.
Some people buy robot vacuums due to the ease of setting up a schedule in an app, and then forgetting about them for weeks. It's crucial that a robot can get the job done, which is why our ZDNet staff looked over and tested a number of the most popular models to help you find the right one for your home.
4. Shark ION
This round, budget robot is just like a typical robot, but it's a step up in terms of performance and features. Its smart mapping system generates 2D and 3D maps of your home and uses them to navigate and avoid obstacles. It can even detect common obstructions such as furniture legs and power cords in real time. This combination of sensors, together with a bump sensor and an infrared drop sensor that keeps it off the stairs is what makes it one of the most agile vacs we've tested.
In our tests, it effortlessly could climb over the thick shag rugs and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation abilities were also impressive. Its composite score for carpet and bare flooring was higher than the competition, and it picked up 98.5 percent of pet hair that we tested in our lab samples.
The controls are simpler than those of the competition's. There's a clean button on the top and you can start it by using the app or by voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set up a schedule for your daily or weekly cleans, create no-go zones, and see its cleaning history. Ion is clad in a smart dark gray plastic that looks and feels beautiful in your home. Its rear dust bin is easy to empty and cleaning the filter is the same.
5. Eufy 11S
If you're looking to buy a basic robotic vacuum that is simple and has no frills at a reasonable cost, the Eufy11S could be a good choice. The model isn't equipped with smart features like Alexa integration and digital mapping, which are available in more expensive models. If you do not need these features, you can save money.
This robot is simple to install and use. It does not require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However, it does come with the remote control that lets you select between different modes and adjust suction level. You can also set up a manual schedule to set the robotvac to a cleaning schedule.
During our tests during our tests, the 11S was very effective at getting rid of pet hair and dirt on hard floors and carpets with low pile. Its slim profile made it easier to reach under furniture and other low objects that more bulkier robots couldn't reach. It was able to go effortlessly over door thresholds and transition from one floor type to another.
The 11S, just like other robots, can also eat certain objects, like cords and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you prevent this from happening by keeping these items off the ground and using a cord organizer if possible. It also suggests cleaning the dustbin on a regular basis by replacing the filters and washing or changing the brushes as needed.
6. iRobot Roomba 980
The Roomba 980 is iRobot's most popular robot vacuum. It's costly, but it's the best robot vacuum you can buy. Its self-navigation and environmental mapping is a marvel to behold. It also has more advanced automation features than its competitors, such as the ability to set virtual boundary lines through its mobile application. Although its application is a bit slow, and the 980 does spin out a bit while rolling over cables, it's a highly efficient robot vacuum.
One thing we love about the 980 is the fact that it utilizes its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneous localisation and mapping technology (or vSLAM) to store the floor plan of your home. It will then use this information to design an efficient and consistent cleaning path for every cycle. The result is cleaner floors, and a more efficient vacuum than other high-end robot vacuums.
Other features include dual multi-surface rubber brushes, that pick up dirt from carpet and hard floors and a spinning brush that sweeps debris into the bin of the robotic vacuum. The sensor for floor tracking assists in navigating between furniture as well as along edges and stairs. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. It can also return automatically to the base station to allow for charging between sessions. While the 980's battery life and bin size isn't as efficient as other robot vacuums, it's a reliable and solid machine that can keep your floors clean for hours on end.
