From car key volkswagen to the 2000's, Volkswagen used a simple metal key with an ability to flip. They eventually switched to keys with a chip and later still to smart keys.

There are a variety of ways to add these systems to your vehicle, whether you buy it or later add them. The system functions similarly to the smart key, and has one or more antennas positioned around the vehicle that are able to detect the electronic ID of the fob as you near it. This signals the car's receiver to turn off the immobilizer and provide electricity to the starter circuit that starts the engine.
By pressing and holding the button, you are able to shut down the system once your engine has begun. The same signal can also be used to lock your doors so that you don't need to worry about someone stealing or locking you out of your car.
Older VW models come with the option of keyless entry however, a lot of newer VWs come with it as standard. If you have an older VW with this feature, the key fob may contain a "backup key mechanical" which can be inserted in a specific emergency port on the steering wheel or dashboard to begin your car. Keys with Transponder Chips
Sometimes called transponder chip They are electronic microchips embedded in the head of your Volkswagen key. The chip sends a signal to your car every time the key is turned and is inserted into the ignition lock. The signal informs the car it has the right key and permits it to unlock the door and begin the motor. The chip is powered by a radio signal that is sent by the antenna ring of your car.
Before the 2000s, the majority of cars used simple metal keys. In the early 2000s, most automakers started to use a key fob that featured a switchblade function, i.e. when you press a button the metal key would pop out of the remote-locking fob and be inserted into the car's ignition. This was a very popular feature that is still in use today.
The Volkswagen replacement keys will have a transponder that needs to be cloned to be compatible with the car's system. This is an easy process that can be done at home using a specialized key cloning tool like the KEYDIY X2 Remote Cloner or another similar device. Bring proof of ownership, like driving licences and registration of your vehicle, if you are having a key made or replaced.

To get this done you'll need to visit the dealership with your title or registration, along with proof that you are the owner. The dealer will then request a new key from Volkswagen. You'll need to return the vehicle to the dealer for the key programmed. You can also talk to locksmiths who will be able to create a new key using the VIN.
