Volvo drivers are enthralled by the remote control capabilities of their key fob. By using a smartphone application, they can lock and unlock the vehicle or start the engine and even locate the vehicle.
First, put the key fob on a clean surface with the logo side facing upwards. Find the button that opens it, wedge a coin between the fob and the cover, and pull up carefully.
Locking the Doors
Volvo's remote keyfobs can unlock your vehicle's doors, tailgate, and flaps for filling with fuel with the push of one button. They can also turn on the ignition, trigger the alarm, and even operate your sunroof when it's installed. You'll never have to search for your keys, or have to worry about locking out of your vehicle.
If you own a brand new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, you might be unaware of some of its key fob's hidden features. You can make use of the manual lock/unlock feature if the battery in your key fob fails.
To press the manual lock/unlock button, hold your key fob with the Volvo logo facing upwards. Find the black button which is situated near the edge of the body of the key fob and press it gently to unlock a cover that hides the manual key blade. This cover can be flipped clockwise using a flathead, or coin.
Start the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs offer an unbeatable level of convenience and function that is unmatched by traditional manual keys. Key fobs, like any other battery-operated device can lose its charge over time. If you notice that your key fob isn't as responsive when you press the lock or unlock button, it may be time to replace its battery.
If your vehicle is equipped with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start accessory, you can also make use of the key fob in order to activate this feature. The vehicle will then cool or heat to the same temperature it was set at when parked, and it will operate for up to 15 minutes.
Remove the cover that covers the back of the key fob using your fingernail. A button should be located underneath the cover on an angle near the edge of the body. You can remove it by sliding it downwards and to the right. The cover will then fall loose and slide off to reveal the manual key blade within! If you are unable to locate the button, search the newly revealed manual key access to find a lever or slot.
Closing the Windows
One of the nefarious features that is not visible on Volvo key fobs is that they allow you to lower all windows immediately using the fobs. This is great when you're trying to squeeze into a tight parking space, or just when you need some fresh air in the cabin while driving.
Press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower all of the windows, and the sunroof if it comes with one. After that, once you're done with the car, you can close everything by pressing the lock button once more for four seconds.
You can also use the key fob to turn on your car's panic alarm. It will create an ominous sound that will draw attention and deter thieves. It can also help you to get home safely even if you've been out for the night. This feature is handy should you live in a dangerous area or want to protect your family while away from home.
The opening of the Tailgate
Volvo has packed its key fob with a many useful features. They are great if you have your hands full with shopping, or helping your children pack their sports equipment after practice.
If you have the Hands-Free Liftgate with Logo Projection and Programmable Height (if equipped) Then you can open it by using the key fob. Simply press the button to open it, and press the same button to close it when you're done.
Use the key fob whenever you are ready to start your vehicle. (Don't be worried if your battery fails or your vehicle isn't starting because it also has an electronic key slot). This is just one of many useful trick for your brand new Volvo.

Turning off the Alarm
Modern key fobs provide a lot of convenience over a standard mechanical car key. They don't always work perfectly, and the batteries can die. You can try to program your key fob at home in case you are in a hurry or don't have the time to go to the store.
Choose a clean, flat surface and lay out your key fob, battery and extra keys. Place the key fob in a place with the Volvo logo facing upwards and then locate a tiny black button on the bottom left of the fob. Slide it down and to the right. The cover will begin to loosen and fall off leaving the key's mechanical blade underneath.
Press the key fob's unlock button twice quickly, and you'll be able to open all the doors as well as the tailgate. The lock button also shuts the sunroof and windows (if equipped) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, the owners manual should provide a way to reset the system.
