Masa Sons SoftBank placed what it hoped would be a transformative bet on residential brokerage Compass in late 2017. But the investment has since wiped out nearly all of its value. In fact, its stake in the company was worth just $543 million as of Aug. 5, according to PitchBook. Thats just a fraction of the $1.5 billion it invested over three funding rounds, and a significant loss on what was once viewed as an incredibly promising business.
