How to Unlock your Vehicle

You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following a couple of steps. First, find a clean working surface to complete the process. Set out all the tools you will need. Locate the battery's hatch and ensure that it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver, coin, or any other similar tool to turn the hatch to open. Then, carefully remove the battery out of its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Be sure to use rubber gloves to protect the clips or electronic contact surfaces.
Place the new battery into the socket once the old one was removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it's seated within all clips. Then slide the cover back towards the key-ring loop until it becomes loose and falls off. Then, you can remove the cover and reveal the key blade inside. You can use this to unlock your car from the driver's doors when you've lost or damaged the key fob.
How to Start Your Vehicle
Modern vehicles are equipped with keyfobs which do more than just unlock and lock the doors. They can also perform other functions such as summoning and auto parking the vehicle. The new Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine via the key fob buttons. But how exactly does it work?
Find a clean, flat surface on which you can arrange everything you need for this project. Then, lay the fob down on the work surface with its Volvo logo facing upwards. Next make use of a flathead screwdriver or coin or similar device to turn the battery hatch back to the open position. Avoid touching replacement volvo key with your tools. Once the hatch is open then slide the battery into its socket and ensure it is seated correctly with the positive (+) side facing up. After the clips are secured into place, replace the battery cover and then put it back together the fob.

How to Change the Battery

It's simple and requires only a small screwdriver that is flat or a plastic pry bar tool. Locate the small slot that used to house the backup/emergency metal ignition key. Inject the blade of a screwdriver or pry bar tool into this slot and gently open the back of the fob for the key. After you have opened the fob, locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Place a new battery in its spot and join the fob.
Note: Some older Volvos are powered by a different kind of battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have 7 tenths of millimeters less than a CR2032 which means you'll need to be extra cautious when replacing your battery.

Keyfobs for Volvo have evolved in recent years. They're now more than just a remote for locking and starting your car; they can also roll down your windows, and give you an emergency boost. To unlock the full potential of your key fob, first you will need to learn how to use it.
The key fob in your car has an transponder chip programmed to your Volvo. When you insert the key fob into the ignition barrel, the transponder chip scans the code and compares it to the one stored in the start inhibitor module of your car. If the codes don't match then your car won't begin. This is an important security measure to prevent your Volvo from being started if a wrong key is used.
If you lose your key and you lose it, you must take it to a dealer to have it replaced and your car reprogrammed. This process can take between 5 and 10 days and cost you a lot of money. Luckily, there's an alternative to cut out some of the costs by programming the system at home. You can find all the necessary information in the owner's manual or on the internet. Remove the logo and nonlogo covers and lay your key fob on a clean surface. Find the gray button on the right side of the fob and press it down. The cover will open to reveal the CR2032 3V battery.
